Geography of Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone is slightly smaller than South Carolina in terms of geographical area with a total area of 71,740 square km. The terrain of the country comprises of a coastal belt of mangrove swamps, wooded hill country, upland plateau, and mountains in the east. The weather is tropical, which means it is hot and humid. The summer and rainy season run from May to December, while the winter and dry seasons run from December to April.

Natural Resources in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone is a dry and sand-laden country. The Harmattan runs from December to February, where dry and dusty winds blow from the Sahara. According to a survey in 2011, the total renewable water resources are 160 cubic kilometers, while the freshwater usage per capita is 38.74 cubic meters every year.
